May 7, 2011, Newport, RI : Late last month, Dr. Sheila Quinn(Associate Professor of Psychology) and Dr. Andrea Chait(Adjunct Professor of Psychology) were notified by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board that Salve Regina's Department of Psychology courses and program designed to prepare undergraduates to sit for the exam upon graduation which will certify them as BOARD CERTIFIED ASSISTANT BEHAVIOR ANALYSTS has been approved. Salve's program is the only one in Rhode Island with this programatic certification(Image).
Dr. Sheila Quinn, who has nurtured this unique track in psychology since its inception, described it this way: "Courses in applied behavior analysis offered by the Psychology Department at SRU have received the approval of the National Certification Board. This means that students completing these psychology courses along with a university supervised internship will be qualified, upon graduation, to take the national certification exam to become Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts. Applied Behavior Analysis(ABA)is the only proven therapy program for children with autism that is recognized by the U.S. Surgeon General so training in this area opens up a wide range of professional opportunities. Currently the demand for people with this training is much greater than the supply and the shortage is only expected to get worse. Not only does Salve now have the only nationally approved program in the state, it, unlike the vast majority of ABA programs in the rest of the country where students have to find their own placements, has its own affiliated placement program already in place in-state."

Walsh to be a part of a larger web site devoted to psychology and other matters that he first put on line in January, 1996. These redesigned pages went on line November 5th, 1999.
