Carry out all calculations to NO LESS THAN 3 decimal places in this class. Check the 4th place number for rounding action! If the 4th place digit is 5 or larger, leave it there OR drop it AND increase the third place digit by 1. If you have a number such as 23.3496, you could report the result as EITHER 23.350 OR 23.3496. Technically, the latter answer, 23.3496 is the more accurate. You loose accuracy with too much rounding. View some other examples here And, if you would like to practice rounding on a REALLY BIG NUMBER, try this one.
Please Note: The exceptions to the "Carry All Work Out to Three Decimal Places Rule" occur when reporting percentiles and "standard scores" such as the SAT & GRE Scores, IQ Scores such as the WAIS or Stanford Binet Scores, and others. When reporting percentiles and standard scores, ALWAYS ROUND YOUR FINAL ANSWER TO A WHOLE NUMBER.
